Do it real, not right… Too often people do what they think the character is or feels.  They rush to get out a tape with choices formed without thorough deep inquiry and do not ground themselves in their own sincere truth and unique charismatic self.  At Authentic Acting, I take you deeper into even the smallest role and get you beyond the seeming obvious choices facing you on the page so you can stand out.  We sink into the psychology, relationships, physicality, and subtleties of delivering an audition that is sensitive to the specific beats and nuances of the character in a way that highlights and stems from your inner power and sincere heart.  You have but moments to capture the casting director’s imagination, and it can’t be by doing it “right” but only by doing it so “real” that they can’t ignore your tape. 

A true actor is always growing… Use your reel as an opportunity to examine the way your instrument works, choices you have made, and to gain very detailed understanding of what is working or not in your technique, as a a door to shedding anything that feels unfulfilling in your work. Acting is about interacting, there is no scene without the other.  The best work is done through what another actor triggers in you and you them, forcing you to take the attention off of yourself and out of your head.  But often classes are too hard a commitment.   If you have an actor friend you want to work with regularly in scene work and don’t want to be forced to follow the structure of a class, partnered scene work is ideal for you.  Here we cultivate the ability to listen and carry an inner monologue that compels the next moment, we learn to delve into what is truly behind relationship and stakes, and we work on ways to truly affect your partner and be affected by him or her.  Bring your actor partner and your scene work of choice (or it can be assigned), or even develop a series of roles and scenes you want to work on with this one actor, and let’s let it rip exercising all the cornerstones of technique critical to the Authentic Approach and to deepening your craft.
